Arthur Melville Article by Stephen Quiller

Arthur Melville Article by Stephen Quiller

I have been waiting 28 years to introduce Arthur Melville and his circle of fellow painters to the American public. Finally I have been given the opportunity. This eight page article is in the July issue of The Artist’s Magazine and is beautifully designed and edited. Maureen Bloomfield, senior editor of this publication, was interested in Melville’s work and chose to publish the article. Please take the time to get a copy and share it with your friends. Although he died in  the early 1900’s his work is as fresh and contemporary as most anything I have seen today!  I have studied him extensively, looking at his paintings in the drawing and print study rooms of many of Great Britain’s museums. He is without a doubt one of the major figures in the history of water media.

Two of his friends, E. A. Walton and Joseph Crawhall were also major water media painters that worked in a similar style. Although there was not enough room in the magazine to include their work, there is a link at the end of the Melville article that will take you to a site that gives their background and shows some images.
